A mother holds her child's hand for a little while and their hearts forever.... Gladys E. Middaugh, 74, of Nichols has gone home to be with her Lord. Diagnosed with cancer, Gladys fought back hard and with dignity. It was six years later when, surrounded by loved ones, she peacefully passed away on Saturday evening, February 29, 2020 at Lourdes Hospital. She was surrounded by those she loved and they filled her hospital room that week with the laughter and cherished memories of a life fully lived. You could always find Gladys doing one of three things. When the weather was fare, Gladys would be out walking. She enjoyed all things living and growing, particularly if it was dappled in greens and yellows. If the weather was not fare, she could be found in her kitchen baking cakes, cookies, and of course, cinnamon rolls. Lastly, she loved spending time with her family. She recognized how deep, how healing and how beautiful the bond was between family. And when she could combine all three - nature, baking, and her family - whether it be a family picnic or barbeque or a Christmas dinner, Gladys could not be any happier. Gladys was a member of the Tioga Center Baptist Church and loved to volunteer at the Christian School. Gladys will be dearly missed by her daughter and caretaker, Amanda Middaugh of Nichols; her granddaughter Hailie Bates; her six sisters: Kathy (Bill) Strong of Owego; Jeanne (Byron) Worden of Apalachin; Virginia (Gary) Murray of Owego; Gail (Ron) Lawson of Owego; Linda Smullen of Concord, NC; Patricia (Grant) Morse of Nichols; her sister-in-law Sylvia Middaugh of Tioga Center; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families also survive. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Mary (Bird) Middaugh, a brother Richard Middaugh, and a brother-in-law Mark Smullen. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, March 7th from 11 to 1 am at the Tioga Center Baptist Church in Tioga Center. A memorial service and celebration of her life will follow at 1pm at the church.
