Gladys V. Cobb
of Le Raysville, PA
Gladys Vivian Cobb, a beacon of warmth and unwavering kindness, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the venerable age of 104. Born on November 20, 1920, in Orwell Township, Pennsylvania, Gladys's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and service woven through the years.
The daughter of Maisie (Lent) and Leon Allis Sr., Gladys was raised on the family farm, a place that instilled in her a profound appreciation for the simple joys of rural life. This love of the land was a constant thread throughout her life, as she tended to her own gardens and shared the bounty with those around her. The farm was not only a home but a gathering place for friends and family, where Gladys's famous pies became the stuff of legend, particularly among those who visited during hunting season, eager for a taste of her apple and pumpkin delights.
Gladys's life was marked by a deep sense of community and fellowship. She found great joy in her involvement with the Warren Center, LeRaysville and Vestal Senior Citizens groups, where her friendships flourished over shared experiences and travel. She loved her adventures with the senior groups—and especially treasured the trip to the Lucille Ball Museum in Jamestown, with her daughter Linda and granddaughter Michelle— a cherished memory that she held dear.
An industrious and creative soul, Gladys channeled her talents into scrapbooking, sewing, and crafting what she lovingly referred to as "ugly quilts," though they were anything but in the eyes of their recipients. Her passion for gardening was evident to all who knew her, as she nurtured both flowers and vegetables with equal care, ensuring that the beauty and sustenance of nature were always within reach.
Gladys's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. As a member of the Neath Church, she reveled in the camaraderie of Bible Study and the spiritual nourishment it provided. Her faith was as natural and abundant as the gardens she tended, a testament to the faith-filled life she led.
Her family was the heart of Gladys's world. She is survived by her loving daughters and son-in-law, Sharon (Donald) Soos, Kay W. Laman, and Linda Cobb; her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. Gladys also leaves behind her brother Harold Allis; sister-in-law Alice Allis; brother-in-law Ethan "Sonny" Doane; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families, who will continue to honor her legacy of love and kindness.
Gladys was predeceased by her beloved husband, Cecil A. Cobb, who passed in 1981; her son, Cedric Cobb; son-in-law, Robert Laman; her parents; and her siblings, Leon Allis, Robert Allis, Carol Harford, Albert Baldwin, and Donna Doane.
In her century of life, Gladys embodied the essence of love and kindness. She was a woman whose hands were never idle and whose heart was perpetually open. As Mother Teresa once said, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Gladys lived this sentiment every day, touching lives with her gentle spirit and generous heart.
We will gather on Thursday, March 6th for a period of visitation from 1 – 3 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A celebration of her life will follow at 3 pm at the funeral home.
Gladys will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Neath Cemetery.
