Helen Traue, a loving, generous, and faith-filled woman, passed away peacefully in Endicott, NY on September 23, 2023. She was born on November 18, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY, where her life began with a sense of purpose and determination that guided her through her impressive 98 years.

Helen's life was filled with family, work, and community. Her greatest joy came from the family she built with her beloved husband, Otto F. Traue, who predeceased her on April 17, 2008. She is survived by her sons, Thomas and his wife Linda Traue, and Ronald Traue. Her legacy also lives on through her six grandchildren, Eric, Scott, Abby, Jim, Chrissy, and Timmy, and her great-grandchildren, Dexton, Tucker, Logan, Ava, and Evan. Each of them carries forward her values of love, generosity, and faith.

Helen and Otto were well-known figures in the community. They owned and operated a family bakery in Oceanside, New York, where they served their neighbors with love and many tasty treats. Her famous Holiday bakery window displays won many awards in the community. Helen also used her skills as a store manager for Carl Hoppls Bakery in Freeport, NY. Later in life, Helen and Otto moved to Nichols and made it their home. They quickly became known for their wonderful blueberries and were respected distributors for Sunrider products. Their impact on the community was immeasurable, and their legacy will continue to live on.

An avid cook and baker, Helen found joy in creating meals and treats for her loved ones. Her German Stollen and Christmas cookies were legendary. She loved visiting with friends and neighbors and was always there to lend a listening ear or a helping hand. Her home was a gathering place for those who knew her, filled with warmth, love, and the smell of her delicious cooking.

Helen was a beacon of love and generosity. She had a profound faith that guided her actions and gave her strength. Her kindness touched the lives of those around her, and she will be remembered as a woman of great courage and compassion.

Throughout the years, Helen was the organizer of everything from family vacations to neighborhood picnics and business parties. She took care of all the family finances and made sure her children received good educations and Otto was well taken care of.

Helen will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched during her lifetime. We honor her life and legacy, knowing that her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
