Hiram Miles Taylor Jr.

A heart of gold stopped beating, two willing hands at rest, God broke our hearts; to prove to us, He only takes the best……Hiram Miles Taylor, Jr. 83, of Nichols passed away on Saturday morning, March 16th, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital. Perhaps you knew him as "Sonny", "Peanut", "Jr" or "Hy" as he touched many folk's lives over the years, and was a true "jack of all trades" Hiram was born on a cold winter's day on January 9, 1936 in Warren Township, Pennsylvania a son of the late Hiram Miles and Arline Naomi (Morris) Taylor. He was a graduate of the last LeRaysville High School class of 1955. On July 5, 1975 he married H. Elaine Campbell and together they have shared nearly 44 years of marriage. For many years, Hiram owned and operated Taylor's General Repair Shop and later Taylor's Military Surplus in Nichols. In addition he also owned the "Hot Dog Wagon" a lunch wagon that served food at many area auctions. An avid race fan, Hiram drove #25 Jr. and also served as a mechanic for many drivers. He enjoyed hunting, attending tractor pulls, camping and was an avid collector of farm toys. Hy will be greatly missed by his wife H. Elaine Taylor and their son, Mark William (Brianna) Taylor of Jonestown, PA and by his daughter and son from his first marriage, Pastor Donna (Pastor Dan) Martin of Worcester, NY and David Taylor of Maine, NY. Also surviving are his brother Richard (Eileen) Taylor of Fuquay Varina, NC; a sister Kathy (Kevin) Hanley of Portville, NY; his special grandchildren: Benjamin Taylor; Ashley (Peter) Martin; John (Crystal) Martin; and Christopher Witty; his great grandchildren: Emily, Hannah, Gideon, Micah, Abby, and Lizzie. His sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws: Marilyn Martz of Nichols; James (Nancy) Campbell of AZ; Ralph (Bonnie) Campbell of Arkansas; Phyllis (Dale) Kester of Nichols; Lewis (Cathy) Campbell; John (Ollie) Campbell; Dixie Campbell all of Litchfield, Pa; Merlin Bowers of Blossburg, Pa; Lucy Miller (Larry Tull); several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families also survive. Hy was predeceased by his parents Hiram and Arline Taylor; a sister Betty Lou (James) Canfield; brothers-in-law: Gilbert Martz; Chuck Campbell; and a sister-in-law: JoAnn Bowers. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Tuesday, March 19th from 5 to 7 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of Hiram's life will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Dan Martin, officiating. Interment and prayers of committal will be held on Wednesday, March 20th at 11 am in the Nichols Cemetery.
