James C. Branston, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born on October 24, 1945, in Endicott, New York Jim's journey through life was marked by his unwavering kindness, generosity, and dedication to his community.
A proud graduate of Tioga Central High School's class of 1963, Jim demonstrated his athletic prowess on the track, where he established many school records. His competitive spirit was matched only by his commitment to his country, which he served honorably in the US Air Force. Jim's sense of duty was a guiding principle throughout his life, a trait that endeared him to all who knew him.
On March 11, 1967, Jim married his sweetheart, Nancy, and together they navigated the ebb and flow of life for 57 years until her passing on April 13, 2024. Their union was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Jim's deep-rooted love for his hometown of Nichols, was evident in his tireless service as the Town of Nichols Supervisor for 24 years. His leadership and generosity left an indelible mark on the community he cherished.
He is survived by a family who adored him: a daughter, Cheri Dann; a son, Steven Branston; his cherished granddaughter, Erica who affectionately called him "Bompa" Jim's legacy continues through his brother and sister-in-law, John and Melanie Branston, and his nephews, Noah and Jessie; and Erica’s companion Dakota Benge. His parents, Raymond and Dorothy (Root) Giltner, and his loving wife, Nancy, preceded him in death.
An avid sports fan, Jim's enthusiasm for the Giants and Mets was infectious. He was known to watch anything on ESPN and had a particular fondness for college sports. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed hunting with his brother John on their property in Nichols, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Jim will be remembered as a friendly and generous man, whose presence brought warmth and kindness to every room. He had the remarkable ability to make each person he met feel valued and heard.
Jim's passing leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. His laughter, stories, and wisdom will be deeply missed, but his influence will live on through the lives he touched.
