James G. Cleary, 86, died on October 6, 2014 at Elcor Health Facility in Horseheads, NY. He was born on September 16, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pa the only child of Michael V. and Teresa Breen Cleary. James attended school and graduated from the Price School of Advertising in 1949. He worked in Philadelphia and New York in the publishing and printing industry until he was called into the military services at the outbreak of the Korean War. James was honorable discharged in 1951. He returned to New York City and was employed as assistant manager of the Photo Board and Trade. In 1954, he married Beryl Boardman of Sayre, Pa. A marriage that lasted 60 years until his death. They traveled extensively during these years to all seven continents and many countries. He was predeceased by their son Michael in 1981 due to an auto accident. Jim is survived by his wife Beryl; former daughter-in-law: Julie Cook Cleary LaMont; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Lois and Bruce Yeagle, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim was a beloved member (30 years) of Alcoholic Anonymous and has many friends there whom he has shown the way to sobriety. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of calling hours on Friday, October 10th from 1-3 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St. Nichols. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the North Orwell Cemetery.
