James W. Hover

Surrounded by those he loved so deeply, James W. Hover, 75, of Smithboro passed away following a brief illness on Friday, January 3, 2014 at his home. Jim was born on September 22, 1938 at home in Owego, a son of the late Harry and Anna Mae (Farnham) Hover. Jim proudly served in the US Navy for four years. He retired in 1992 from the US Postal Services and will be remembered by many in the Owego community. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf. In later years, he dedicated much time to the care of his yard, making it look like the greens of a golf course. He will be greatly missed by his morning coffee friends at Arby's and T.J.'s Market. Jim was a member of the Smithboro United Methodist Church and the VFW Post 1371 in Owego. Jim will be greatly missed by his family, his wife Anna Rene' (Moon) Hover; his daughters Kelly Hughes of Berkshire and Kathleen Hover of Cramerton, NC; sister Beverly Schmitt of Owego; step son Matthew (Tonya) Hill of King Ferry, NY; step daughter Erin (Fred) Teribury of Barton; he treasured the time spent with his granddaughters: Madeleine and Alexis Teribury and Bristol and Lorelei Hill; and grandson Dylan Teribury. He will be also missed by his feline Missy. James was predeceased by his parents; and a brother Hugh Hover; and a sister Mavis Ingham. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Tuesday, January 7th from 4 to 6 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols and on Wednesday, January 8th from 10 to 11 am at the Smithboro United Methodist Church. A memorial service and celebration of his life will follow at 11 am with Pastor Donna Martin, officiating.
