Janetta J. Cornell

When tomorrow starts without me, try to understand, an angel came and called my name, then took me by the hand....Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Janetta J. Cornell, 60, of Owego went to her heavenly home on Monday, June 5, 2017. Janetta was born on April 27, 1957 in Johnson City, NY a daughter of David and Dorothy Steinruck. She was a graduate of Vestal High School class of 1975 and received her Bachelors of Social Work from Elmira College. Janetta was employed for many years by Broome Developmental Center and later SCI in Owego. She treasured her family ~ enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, gathering recipes, and loved the Christmas holiday. Janetta will be greatly missed by her children: Shannon (Scott) Rogers of Nichols; David Cornell, Jr. of Owego, Darcy (Ed) Lurcock; of Owego. Her special grandchildren Kaitlyn, Owen and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of the newest grandbaby in November. Her sisters: Dixie Dahl of Owego; Nancy (Stanley) Swarts of Endicott; Corrine Davis of Binghamton; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. She was predeceased by her husband David Cornell (2001) and her brothers Roger and Rodney. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday, June 9th from 10 to 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of her life will follow at 11 am.
