Jarad Joshua Dewing

December 25, 1978 — December 18, 2023

Jarad Joshua Dewing left his adventure on this earthly plane on December 18, 2023, for a new one somewhere. He was born on December 25, 1978, in a snowstorm at St. Joesph Hospital in Carbondale, PA. Jarad has been described as intellectual, philosophical, witty, eccentric, lyrical, poetic, and artistic, just to name a few. He taught himself to read at three years old and graduated from Northeast Bradford School in 1997, where he played on the soccer team and participated on the Scholastic Challenge Team. He won many awards, including science fairs and spelling bees. He was accepted to the USMA at West Point, where he attended until 1999, majoring in French, publishing a poetry book, and starring in a one-character play. He resided in Endicott, NY, with his wife, Miriam Antolick Dewing and their three children, Canaan Lucas Dewing, Eos Inara Dewing, and Eden Isabella

Dewing. When wanderlust took over, he left to travel the country, learning to cook various cuisines. He moved to Syracuse, NY, with his second wife, Jen Ivy Meerbaum Dewing, and their daughter Ava Bernell Dewing. While in Syracuse, he earned a title as Salt City Iron Chef and worked at Arad Evans Inn and Phoebe’s. When he moved to Binghamton, NY, he worked at 205 Dry. Then in Owego, NY, he worked at every restaurant in town, including his favorite, Hea-Hea, a recovery center for eating disorders. He loved that he could make a difference with his food. Jarad was a chef, a poet, a musician, and a friend. Sean Eberly and Kristen VanDeventer Rice (Pixie) are two of many special friends. Jarad is survived by his parents Russell (Rusty) A. Dewing Jr. and Susan (Suzi) C. Emmett Dewing, sister Sarah Nicole Carr and her children Luke Jeffery and Ella Nicole, sister Rebekah Hope Hoover and Paul David Hoover, and their children Judah Michael, Ephraim Adam, Jacob Daniel, Emma Grace, Erin-Elisabeth Hope, and Joshua David along with his grandparents Russell A. Dewing Sr., Ruth G. Dewing, Sue Schrag, Vern Schrag, and Linda Emmett.

Jarad spent his formative years in Warren Center, PA, where he grew up with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was in the process of writing a novel about his adventures there. Jarad was predeceased by his grandfather William R. Emmett, whose cap Jarad often wore, his aunt Linda Emmett, and his younger brother Luke Adam Dewing, whom he never stopped grieving.

Jarad was a natural-born leader; he lit up every room he walked into and made friends on every path he walked. He did not discriminate except for injustice, and he will be missed by all, including his chosen family. His charity of choice was the Trevor Project. A celebration of his life and lasting imprint will be held in the near future. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting his guestbook at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com. Caring assistance is provided by Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
