It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of James Lee Hennings, affectionately known as Jim, on February 14, 2024. Born on January 4, 1955, in Omaha, Nebraska, Jim's warmth and caring heart touched all those who had the pleasure of knowing him throughout his 69 years of life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Jim was the beloved husband of Michelle L. Hennings, father to Dakota, Brian, Tabetha, and Joanie, who each reflect Jim's spirit in their own unique ways. He will also be missed by his five grandchildren: Skyler, Braedon, Elaina, Alyssa and Bryanna. His brother Bob and sister Cathy, along with several nieces, nephews, and their families, also survive him, all of whom will miss his presence.
Raised in Nebraska, Jim carried with him the strong values and work ethic that characterized his upbringing. His career path led him to Price Chopper, where he was a valued member of the Maintenance team. Outside of work, Jim was a man of many interests. He had a knack for tinkering with machines, and could often be found in his garage, working on his lawn mower or snow blower. His practical skills were matched by a playful side, which shone through in the joyful hours he spent playing board games and, with a special tenderness, Barbies with his daughter Dakota. This duality of Jim's nature—his ability to fix and create, as well as to engage and nurture—made him a well-rounded individual whom many admired.
Jim's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the countless ways in which he enriched our lives. Jim's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories we share and the love we continue to hold for him.
As we bid farewell to Jim, we do so with gratitude for the time we were privileged to spend with him. His life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and the importance of family. We will gather for a period of visitation on Saturday, March 2nd from 10 – 11 am at the Nimmonsburg United Methodist Church, 918 Upper Front Street, Binghamton, NY. A celebration of his life will follow at 11 am at the church. Those attending are encouraged to dress casual and bring your memories to share. Memories and condolences may also be shared by visiting his guest book at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com
We say goodbye to Jim with heavy hearts, but also with a profound appreciation for the time we were given with him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his love lives on within us all.
