Joan Marie Babcock Dougherty, 78, of Candor, New York passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 28, 2016 suddenly and unexpectedly at home. Joan is survived by her husband Milton Dougherty, whom she married in 2014; her daughter Luanne (Aaron) D'Antoni, granddaughter Elise (Ryan) Torske, great-grandsons Logan and Max Torske, granddaughters Danielle Weslow (fiance' Zach Dwyer) and Nicole Weslow, daughter Dawn (David) Jaros, granddaughter Stephanie Jaros, grandson Paul Jaros, daughter Lynda (Jon) Lowin, grandsons Matthew and Aaron Lowin, granddaughter Natalie Lowin, step-son Richard (Beth) Babcock and his daughter Jacy (Sam) Smith. Her sisters Marda (Don) Hanford, Dondrue (Nelson) Harrington, Dedre (Jim) Houseknecht. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law Marguerite Hanna, Betty Babcock, Nancy Babcock, Kathleen(Barry) Malonis; She is also survived by her step-daughter Christine (Stephen) Lane and their children Amanda, Ashley, David Lane, step-son Paul (April) Dougherty and their children Meagan, Sean, Eric, Ryan Dougherty and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Joan was predeceased by her first husband Richard Babcock, her parents John and Alberta (Bleiler) Hanna and brother John Hanna. Joan was a very loving and caring lady who in turn was loved by all who knew her. She especially had a deep and caring love for her family all of whom will miss her greatly. She was a longtime member of the Nichols United Methodist Church and recently was attending the Straits Corners Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Wednesday, November 2nd from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, November 3rd at 10:00 am at the funeral chapel. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Smithboro Cemetery.
