John Hartley Lounsbury, of Smithboro, 79, went to be with our Lord after an extended illness on December 27, 2010 with family by his side. He is predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Sylvia Lounsbury and a brother Sheldon. John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Annetta Yaple Lounsbury, and their five children; Rebecca Ryan of Texas; Clark Lounsbury of N. Carolina; John Timothy Lounsbury; Daniel Lounsbury both of Barton and David Lounsbury of Smithboro. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. John attended Owego Free Academy, was in the US Army from 1952-1954, and graduated from Cornell University in 1958. He went on to teach Vocational Agriculture & Science, was a Horticultural Inspector for the State of New York and retired as a USDA Federal Employee in 1995. John was a Boy Scout leader, member of the VFW and Grange, served as a lay speaker and a part-time farmer. John was a loving husband, father, and a fine Christian man. He enjoyed hunting, farming and family. A memorial service will be held on January 8, 2011 at 12 noon at the Nichols United Methodist Church. A period of visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of the service at noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Nichols United Methodist Church.
