John M. Marshall

John M. Marshall, 74, of Nichols passed away on Tuesday evening, June 12, 2018 following a courageous battle with Cancer. John is survived by his children: Wendy (Jim) Zelasko of Alden, NY; John W. (Lois) Marshall of Owego; Robert (Tabitha) Marshall of Lancaster, SC; his companion and friend Karen Horton of Nichols; a brother Dale L. (Cindy) Marshall of Gerry, NY; grandchildren: Austin Zelasko, Peyton Zelasko, Allison Marshall, John Michael Marshall, and Alex Marshall; nieces and nephews Michael (Laurie) Marshall; Heidi (Peter) Pillitteri, Roy Boswell (Beverly Holmes); Kathy (Ray) Langworthy. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Ida Marshall; a sister Peggy Boswell and brother Robert Marshall. John was born on October 16, 1943 in Houtzdale, Pa and was a graduate of Jamestown High School Class of 1961. Following high school, he continued his education at Cortland College where he received his master's in education. John was a long time PE teacher for Vestal High School where he served as the Boys Varsity Swim Coach. In 2001, John retired following 34 years of teaching. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, June 18th from 10 to 11 am at the Nichols United Methodist Church, Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of his life will follow at 11 am with Pastor Mary Jean Simonin, officiating. Following the services a luncheon and time of sharing will be held at the church hall.
