June Doris (Bates) Olmstead, 68, passed away quietly at her daughter's home in Phoenix AZ on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. She was surrounded by her sister Donna, niece Doris, grandchildren Ryan and Elizabeth, daughter Bobbie Jo, and son- in- law Alex. June battled Breast cancer for 6 years when it metastasized to her brain in late November of last year. June was born in Endicott, NY on May 7, 1946 a daughter of the late Aaron and Doris Bates. Her siblings included sisters Judy and Donna and brothers- David, Ronnie, Donnie, and Robert. June graduated from Owego Free Academy. She married Danny K. Olmstead and they had two children Danny Aaron and Bobbie Jo Olmstead. They divorced after 10 years of marriage but remained friends and he and her close friend Sharon Brown were a few of the last phone calls she received. June loved people and always worked at jobs where she could socialize and help all who needed her. She worked at Barnaby's/Settler's and the Original Restaurant for many years, Smith Construction as secretary and as a nurse's aide in PA until she was diagnosed in January of 2009. June resided in Rome PA for over 40 years with frequent vacations to Arizona to visit her family. She was an avid seamstress and loved sewing for her family. She loved shopping, dancing, reading, playing cards, talking on the phone with friends and family, and Sunday drives. June is survived by her son and daughter -in -law, Danny and Sandy Olmstead of Avondale AZ and Daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie Jo and Alex Smith of Phoenix AZ. She had six grandchildren, Dustin, Nathan and Miranda Olmstead and Ryan Michael, Jacob and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Rybicki. She is also survived by her siblings Judy Dolinich, Donna Card, Ronald Rosengrant and Robert Bates and numerous nieces and nephews with whom she had very close bonds and loved dearly. June was predeceased by her Mother and Father, her son Michael, Brothers David and Donnie, and her Niece Tina Marie. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of her life on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 11 am at the United Methodist Church, 59 South Main St., Nichols.
