When someone you love becomes a memory...the memory becomes a treasure

Kay F. Shaw,  90, of Nichols passed away on March 29, 2023 following a period of declining health.  Kay was born on December 21, 1932 in Harlem hospital in NY. The daughter of the late Lovenia Netter and Harry Netter Sr. Kay in her lifetime multitasked and worked as a telephone operator. However, her independence allowed her to own two variety stores on 115th street and on Bronx Blvd. On October 30th 1984 Kay married her best friend James S. “Jim” Shaw. The one thing that never changed was her love for beauty and nature with flowers and her business Kay’s Rare Cactis and Succulents was a homage to that. She was lovingly known as the Cactus lady. She took great pride in knowing every detail of her beautiful collection. Together they worked side by side giving them both peace and tranquility until his passing on February 8, 2011. Kay entered eternal paradise on March 29, 2023. Words aren’t enough to express how much she will be missed by her family. She holds a special place in the hearts of her children Sunceray Coaxum, Raheim Steven Coaxum, Ishan Hosea Armstrong, and Olivia Armstrong. She was predeceased by her daughter Stephanie Smalls, son Robert Netter, brother-in-law Joseph Dixon, siblings Ruth Saunders, Rebecca Forehand, Emma Lou King, Emmaline Venable, Jannie Marie Lawrence. Lovingly known as Grandma Vicky and Grandma Shaw by her grandchildren Olivia, Isa, Moses, Steve, Christchelle, Kenyetta, Damien, Quaniqua, Kizhaya, Raqiba, Jahkim, Saayid, Hosea,  and Niamke  and her beautiful great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her only brother Harry Netter, and a host of amazing family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, April 8th from 1 to 2 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S.
