Keith Thomas Fairlie
of Barton, New York
Keith Thomas Fairlie, affectionately known as "Shadow" by his trucking buddies, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, following a period of declining health. Born on December 12, 1950, in Waverly, NY, Keith's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, a passion for the open road, and a love for the agricultural lifestyle that was deep-rooted in his heart.
Keith was the beloved husband of Bonnie J. (Ryder) Fairlie, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage since their union on December 31, 1998. He was a devoted father to his children, Michelle Rollison (Dean Horton), Rory (Crystal) Conrad, and Natalie (Tim) Tuetken. His stepchildren, Jamie Whitmore, Gary (Nicole) Whitmore, and Samantha Whitmore, also held a special place in his life. Known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, Kaylee, Jillian, Chelsea, Marley, Remington, Cotton, Ryder, Rylyn, Bentley, Cory, Adeline, Zander, Hailey, and Grayson, he cherished every moment spent with them. His siblings, Lorraine (Lynn) Walker, Pat (Jim) Dore', and Ron (Joan) Fairlie, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families, will fondly remember Keith's loving presence. His faithful Australian Shepard, Jessie, was a constant and loyal companion throughout his life. Preceding him in death were his parents Thomas and Barbara Fairlie; his son Brian Fairlie and a stepson Lonni Whitmore.
A proud graduate of the Tioga Central High School class of 1968, Keith's youthful days were filled with active participation in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H. His connection to the land and love for agriculture blossomed during these formative years. As a self-employed truck driver, Keith was known for his exceptional ability to navigate the country's highways without the need for a map or GPS, a testament to his keen sense of direction and love for the road.
Keith's heart, however, always belonged to the farm. He was a true farmer at heart, with a particular fondness for his horses. His very first horse, Dusty, always held a special spot in his heart. Keith's hands were rarely idle, as he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and caring for his horses. He was known for his ability to fix anything that needed repairing—a skill that was surpassed only by his devotion to his family.
A man of simple pleasures, Keith loved reading western books and watching western shows. His family often joked that he had saddle sores from riding the couch during his marathon viewing sessions. His infectious love for life and the legacy of kindness he imparted to those around him will be remembered by all who knew him.
In the end, Keith was more than just a husband, father, a grandfather, a brother, or a friend. He was a beacon of love, generosity, and friendliness. His memory will be cherished, his spirit will be missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire.
Family and friends of Keith are invited to a period of visitation to remember the love, laughter, and joy he brought to our lives on Saturday, February 22nd from 11 – 1 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
