L. Dale Keir
of Litchfield, PA
L. Dale Keir, affectionately as Dale to his friends and family, passed away on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on June 1, 1939, in Sayre, PA Dale's life was a testament to the values of hard work, love for family, and the joy of adventure. Surrounded by his loving family at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Dale's passing coincided with a reunion with his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Keir, on a day symbolizing love and affection.
Dale was a proud graduate of Wyalusing High School, where he formed the foundations of a life dedicated to learning and community. He carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life, applying them to his passion for farming. Dale's love for the land was evident to all who knew him, as he devoted himself to working on the family farm in Wyalusing. His dedication to the soil and the seasons was a constant thread in his life, providing not just a livelihood but a source of immense pride and satisfaction.
Beyond his work on the farm, Dale's interests were as vast as the open skies under which he loved to hunt and fish. An outdoorsman through and through, Dale found peace and pleasure in the natural world, whether he was casting a line in the waters near his home in Litchfield or exploring the rugged terrains of Arizona, Colorado, and Montana. His adventurous spirit was shared with his family, culminating in a memorable final hunting season spent with his son and grandsons Tyler and Kolton.
Dale's commitment to physical fitness was apparent to those who knew him. An avid runner, weightlifter, bicyclist, and canoeist, he participated in many area events, including the General Clinton's Regatta. His involvement with the Sayre's Sportsman’s Club and the Wednesday and Sunday Shoot club was a natural extension of his love for sports and camaraderie. His roles as a member, president, and director reflected his leadership abilities and his desire to give back to the community that he held dear. Dale's culinary skills, particularly his peach and apple pies, became a cherished family treat, eagerly anticipated at gatherings and a delicious legacy of his nurturing spirit.
Dale's life was rich with the love of his family, including his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Tiffanie Keir; his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Kenneth Chilson; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy; and his sister, Carol Reed. He was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews and held a special place in the hearts of his neighbors and dear friends, Holly and Greg Pollock.
Predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Keir, his brother Fred Keir, and brother-in-law Dennis Reed, Dale leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and friendship. Those who knew him would describe him as loving, adventurous, and friendly—a man who embraced life with open arms and a warm heart.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Thursday, February 19th from 10 – 12 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A celebration of his life will follow at 12 pm. Dale will be laid to rest in the Bumpville Cemetery.
