To every thing there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 Lavere C. Munn, 81, a lifelong and well respected resident of Litchfield, passed away Tuesday evening, June 3, 2008 following a brief illness. Lavere is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years, Janice (Twigg) Munn, his children and their spouses, Gary and Darla Munn of Dalton, GA, Robin and Robin Munn, of Sayre, PA, Cdr. Lyle, (Retired USN) and Denise Munn, of St. Leonard, MD, Michelle (Munn) and Patrick Burkhart, of Boca Raton, FL and Dr. Barry Munn of Gainesville, GA. Also surviving are his sister, Shirley Talada, Bath, NY, grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa (Munn) and John Farmer, Lori (Munn) and Shawn Giles, Andrew and Jennifer Munn, Jason Munn, Megan Munn, Katie (Munn) and Dan Wilson, Kevin Munn, Patrick Burkhart, Brittany Burkhart, Ashley Burkhart, Trevor Munn and Seth Munn, great grandchildren; Taryn, Joseph, Rebekah, Christina, Samuel and David Farmer, Mason and Benjamin Giles and Aubrey Wilson, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Foley of Endicott, Paulyne Munn of Port Orange, Fl, Robert and Barbara Twigg, Sayre, Lois and Tracy Silkman, Litchfield, Carol Babcock, Sheshequin, Gerald and Lucille Twigg, Litchfield, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lavere was born on May 3, 1927 in Litchfield, a son of the late Alfred U. and Goldie L. (Goble) Munn. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Phyllis Predmore and Lucille Foley and brother, Glen Munn. He was a graduate of Athens High School, class of 1945, served in the US Army, 11th Airborne and participated in the Occupational Forces in Japan (1947-1948). He married his sweetheart Janice on June 26, 1949. Lavere has been a lifelong and devoted member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer for over 30 years, was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir and served on the Administrative Council and Board of Trustees of the Church. In his early years he worked as a farmer, then began his 30 year employment at Ingersoll-Rand, retiring in 1985. Not one to ‘slow down', he then completed 10 additional years at Limerick Construction. In addition to working, Lavere enjoyed hiking, gardening, golfing, bowling and camping. Most of all, Lavere was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was always understanding, encouraging and supportive to the family he was so proud of. A Celebration of Lavere's life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 So. Main St., Nichols, NY. Rev. Jon Austin, his Pastor, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of the service.
