Armsby Lee Walters, 81
of Orwell Twp., Rome, PA
Armsby Lee Walters, known affectionately to his friends and family as “Lee” and “Muggins”, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023, following a period of declining health at the Robert Packer Hospital, in Sayre, PA.
Born on March 16, 1942, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Burton and Christine Jones. At the tender age of 17, demonstrated his courage and commitment to his country by enlisting in the US Navy. His service spanned over two decades, a testament to his dedication and patriotism. Following his retirement from the Navy, Lee continued to work, keeping busy at Douglas Kilmer Stone Quarry and DuPont, where his handy skills were put to good use.
Lee was a man of simple pleasures, with a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and cherished the precious moments spent with his family. His weekends were often highlighted by breakfast outings with Louise at his favorite spots, Nana's, Beeman's, and Denny's. A shopping trip to Walmart would always lead to lunch out. Lee was also a proud member of the Wyalusing American Legion Post 534, where he enjoyed camaraderie and fellowship.
A loving, generous, and thoughtful man, Lee was a dedicated family man, deeply loved and admired by his wife, Louise (Frisbie) Walters. His children, Misty Manuel, Laura (Terry) Cuddy, Vicki (Mike) Hitchcock, Teresa (Chad) Evans, Cindy Capwell, Matt Coston, and William (Katrina) Capwell, Shawn Brown and Samantha Brown; will greatly miss their father’s warm presence. Lee's spirit will also be missed by sisters: Ann Lockmond and Patty Weaver. His legacy also lives on through his 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered Louise's siblings: Freddie and Peggy Frisbie, Bill and Barb Brown, Dale and Caren Wheaton, George Brown, Joseph Brown, Norman and Jackie Brown, Jonny McCormack, Nellie and Merton Walter, Doris Brown, and Darlene Brewster.
Lee was predeceased by his parents, Burton and Christine Jones, a son, David Walters, a granddaughter Stephanie Evans, grandson Brandon “Turtle” Crawford, his brothers Jack Walters and Burton Jones, sister Jane Scott; and Louise’s siblings: Victor, Howard and Raymond Brown.
To quote Albert Einstein, "The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive." Lee Walters embodied this sentiment, consistently giving of himself to his family, his work, and his country. He was a man who believed in the power of hard work, the importance of family, and the beauty of adventure.
Lee, was a man of honor, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a steadfast friend, will be deeply missed. Yet, in our sorrow, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the love he shared. May he rest in eternal peace.
As we celebrate Lee’s life and the lasting impact he had on those around him, let us remember the love, laughter, and joy he brought to our lives. We will gather on Saturday, October 7th for a period of visitation from 10 – 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
