Leon E. Fortner, 83, of State Route 17C, Waverly, NY passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009 a day before his 84th birthday. He was affectionately known as "The Master Plaster" by his friends. Leon was born on March 27, 1925 in Apalchin, NY a son of the late Dore and Blanch (Ulrick) Fortner. He was a well known and hardworking "Master Plaster" for over 60 years. Leon was a veteran of the US Army and served his country during WWII. He was a member of the Nichols American Legion and was an avid race enthusiast. Leon was predeceased by his wife Esther (Whitcomb) Fortner in 1994; a brother Archie Fortner and sister Phyllis Fehr. He is survived by his nephews Douglas Fehr and Gene Fehr, his cousin Evelyn Stella and a host of friends and his caregivers among them: Gomer Wendela, Jerry Weed, Dick Kresge and Charlie Brown. A time of remember and sharing memories will be held on Sunday, March 29th at 1 pm at the Nichols American Legion, 1 Dean Street, Nichols.
