Our hearts still ache in sadness and secret tears still flow, what it meant to lose you, no one will ever know….surrounded by her family, Lillian J. Merrill, 78, of Windham Twp., (Route 187, Rome, Pa) passed away on Thursday morning, March 24, 2011. Lillian was born on November 30, 1932 in Elmira, NY a daughter of the late Adelbert and Myrtle (Hulbert) Ferriton. On October 11, 1957 Lillian married Ray Merrill and together they made Windham their home and community. Dedicated to her community, Lillian was a member of the Windham Center Ladies Aid where she served as President; a member of the Windham Ladies Auxilary; the Oak Hill Coral; served as secretary for the Windham Ambulance and served as Judge for the Windham Township election board. In addition, Lillian was a notary from 1986 until 2006. She treasured her family, friends and community. Lillian and Ray enjoyed attending square dances with their many friends. Her caring heart and gentle touch will be missed by all who knew her. Lillian is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Ray Merrill; son and daughter-in-law: Dennis and Brenda Merrill; daughter Diane Chapman; special grandchildren: Toni Felton; Todd and Journey Felton; Eric Merrill and Kristy Merrill; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Chester and Earlene Merrill; Lynn Merrill and Nancy Byrson; Joyce and Ralph Parkin. Special family friends Thomas and Patricia Jenkins and family; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Lillian was predeceased by her parents Adelbert and Myrtle Ferriton; brother and sisters-in-law: Donald J. Ferriton; Donna Ferriton and Doris Ferriton; son-in-law: Kenneth Chapman. Funeral services and a celebration of Lillian's life will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 4 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with her brother-in-law Rev. Ralph Parkin, officiating. Spring interment will be in the North Orwell Cemetery. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Sunday from 2 pm until the time of the service at 4pm.
