Lula J. Schrader

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, we'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again….Our loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother Lula J. Schrader, 82, of Windham Twp., Route 187 Rome, Pa passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Robert Packer Hospital following a period of declining health. Lula was born on January 1, 1930 in Straits Corners, NY a daughter of the late Hiram and Ethel (Boyden) Thornton. She was a graduate of Rome High School and on August 9, 1947 in Tioga Center, NY she married James E. Schrader, Sr., together they shared sixty-four years of marriage. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Lula assisted in various health care positions in the area. She enjoyed gardening, creating crafts, painting, drawing and listening to country music. Lula is survived by her husband James E. Schrader, her children and their spouses: James E. and Betty Schrader of Windham Center, Pa; Beverly Buchmann of Windham Center, Pa; Melvin and Ann Schrader of Nichols, NY ; Dana Schrader of Windham Center, Pa; Tracy and Margarida Schrader of Windham Center, Pa; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, among them a special niece Ruth Mae Donaldson, nephews and cousins also survive. Lula was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Elizabeth Harrison, Gladys Whalen and Jesse Thornton. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 11 to 1 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of Lula's life will follow at 1pm with Pastor William Kohler, officiating. Interment will follow in the Nichols Cemetery.
