M. Marie Root Haus Babcock

M. Marie Root Haus Babcock of Litchfield Pa, formerly of Nichols and Owego, NY passed away Monday, March 22, 2010. Marie was born in Owego, NY on February 9, 1920, she was the daughter of Ford and Mabel, (MacGillivray) Root. An Avid book and doll collector, Marie enjoyed buying and selling antiques and real estate. She was an advocate for all animals and helped to start Stray Haven and contributed to Happy Tails. Marie was also a long time, active member of the Tioga County Republican Committee; the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No.175, Nichols; The Nichols American Legion Auxiliary; Friends of the Library; and Nichols Ro-ki Club. Marie was the beloved mother of Joyce M. Haus Harvey, (Don Merrill) of Litchfield, Pa. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Holly Harvey,(Greg Pollock) of Litchfield; Charade, (Joseph) Kittle of Litchfield; Lisa Harvey of Litchfield; and Harry, (Linda) V. Harvey, III of Nichols; many great grand children and great, great grandchildren; brother Richard, (Beatrice) Root of Santa Rosa, CA; sister Patricia Root Stevens of Owego, NY and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Raymond Gary Haus; her husband, Jacque M. Babcock; sister Irene Torrey; and brother, Millard, (Nick), Root; son-in-law, Harry V. Harvey, II. Private services were held Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Suftin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with Pastor Dan Martin, officiating. Interment followed in the Tioga Cemetery in Owego, NY.
