Madaline S. Shay

Madaline S. Shay, of West River Rd., Nichols went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Madaline was born February 2, 1927 in Elmira, NY a daughter of Carl M. and Anna Rose (Smith) Sampson. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Nichols Baptist Church. Madaline touched many lives and will be missed by so many. She enjoyed spending time in her gardens, cooking, baking although her greatest pleasure was being surrounded by her family. Madaline will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 60 years, John "Jack" Shay; her daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Larry Sterling; Cindy and Ron Keppler; her sons and daughters-in-law: Bill and Sandy Shay; Jim and Patti Shay; her special grandchildren: Jenny and Jon Hardin, Jessica and Rich Lambert, Dan and Catherine Shay, Julie and Joel Riley, Brad and Karyn Sterling, Justin and Heather Keppler, Kristen Keppler, Katie Shay and Adam Shay; twelve great grandchildren, her brother-in-law Richard "Dick" Smith; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Nancy and Bill Hay; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Madaline was predeceased by her twin sister Margaret Towner; sisters Doris Moore and Alma Smith; brothers Donald Sampson and Warren Sampson. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Sunday, March 23rd from 1-4 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and a celebration of Madaline's life will follow at 4 pm with Pastor Ron Park, officiating. Interment will follow in the Nichols Cemetery.
