Marcus Gordon Chubbuck

Marcus Gordon Chubbuck, 61, of Rome, Pa. passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. Marcus was born on April 20, 1954 in Waverly, NY, the son of Edgar M. Chubbuck and the late Norma Bennett Chubbuck. He attended The Northeast Bradford High School where he attended County, District and Regional bands through the years. He also accompanied school choruses and vocal and instrumental groups. He was a member of a number of clubs, e.g., the Sr. History Club, Photography Club, and Yearbook Staff. After graduation during the summer of 1972 before entering college he participated in a People to People sponsored music tour for several weeks in Iceland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Upon entering Penn State he was accepted into the Penn State Marching Band and Concert Band. He received degrees in Piano Performance from the Pennsylvania State University and the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. While at Penn State he was twice winner of the Music Department's concerto competition and played with the University Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. His teacher there was Steven H. Smith and at the Manhattan School Seymour Lipkin. Both were esteemed pedagogues and performers and their mentorship and musical influence has sustained him for his lifetime. After graduation from the Manhattan School he performed as a free lance pianist, vocal coach and accompanist. He then entered the business world for in a 21 year career culminating a Vice President in Investment Bank Human Resources. He retired and moved back to Pennsylvania in 2007 where he lived and prospered in retirement until a recent period of declining health. He was a lifelong member of the Dille Parish United Church of Christ in LeRaysville and Potterville, Pa. where he was Music Director in his teens prior to heading to college and in his retirement years served in the same capacity. In addition to his church activities, he continued fascination, love, and exploration of the piano. He also maintained a small piano teaching class until recent months. In addition to devoting many hours a day practicing on the piano, he enjoyed many hours of gardening, traveling to Europe, Hawaii and many other states in the USA, reading and studying languages and volunteering in his church. He was preceded in death by his mother Norma in 2015, a brother Lynn, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Surviving are his father Edgar Chubbuck at home, his sister and brother-in-law: Susan and Raymond Bird of Vestal, NY; sister-in-law Marie Chubbuck of Endicott, NY nieces and nephews Captain Andrew Bird, Kyle Bird, and Emily Bird, Terri (Greg) Peck, Daniel (Theresa) Chubbuck, Kelly (Chad) Benedict, Saraiha, Charity, Lynsey, Abby, and many cousins. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the staff of the Guthrie Clinic and Guthrie Hospice and especially to nurse Sharon Cullen whose unerring love and care sustained us all through this difficult time. It was Marc's wish that there be no calling hours or memorial service. A graveside internment service at Darling Cemetery will be held at the family's convenience.
