Marianne Bailey

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen unheard but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear….Our loving mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Marianne Bailey, 56, of Owego passed away following a courageous battle with Cancer. Marianne was born on August 30, 1958 in Endicott, a daughter of the late Norman and Nancy (Sherwood) Mathewson. She was a graduate of Owego Free Academy class of 1976 and the Arnot School of Nursing. Devoted to the care of others, Marianne was a registered nurse at the Arnot Hospital for over 25 years, served as a Chemung County Rural Health Nurse and most recently worked at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Owego until her health started to fail her in April. She treasured the time spent with her family, was a amazing baker, and will be remembered for her Christmas cookies and delicious pies. Marianne enjoyed reading, traveling to Alaska and being close to her family. Marianne will be greatly missed by her daughters and sons-in-law: Melissa Bailey of Owego; Jennifer and William Gartland of Nichols; Allyson and Aaron Stowe of Elmira; step son: Dylan Bailey; her brothers and sister-in-law: David Mathewson of Buffalo; Mark Mathewson of Owego, Tim and Maureen Mathewson of Nichols; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Kathleen and Nick Musso of Endicott; Cynthia and Tony Moro of Nichols; her former husband John Bailey of Elmira; special grandchildren: Andrianna, Madisyn, William Jr., Ryleigh, Lucious, Aaron, Jr. and Makennah; nieces and nephews: Karen, Caitlin, Justin and Andrew. Marianne was predeceased by her parents; and her niece Nicole Mathewson. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, August 1st from 9 - 11 am at the Lounsberry United Methodist Church. A memorial service and celebration of her life will follow at 11 am with Pastor Jon Austin, officiating.
