Mark D. Hill

of Nichols, NY

Mark D. Hill, a man known for his humor and friendliness, passed away on the rare leap year date of February 29, 2024, at Binghamton General Hospital due to a stroke. Born on July 15, 1975, in Sayre, Pennsylvania Mark's life was one characterized by strength, resilience, and a deep passion for the things he loved.

Mark's journey began as the cherished son of Judith (Mills) Vergason and Daniel (Nancy) Hill. His legacy continues through his loving son, Caleb. His memory will forever be with his sister, Leslie Miller. Mark was an admired uncle to his nephews, Evan and Cayden, and held a special place in his heart for aunts and uncles, Steve & Marcy Hill, Cheryl & Louie Zorn, Janice & Jerry Baldwin, Tim and Nancy Mills and their families. His family tree bore the deep roots of his maternal grandparents, Helen & Frederick "Ted" Mills, and step grandfather Vern Shores, as well as his paternal grandparents, Lois and George Hill, who preceded him in death.

Mark attended Broome Tioga BOCES for Diesel Mechanics and was a proud graduate of Owego Free Academy's class of 1994. In 1995, Mark's adventurous spirit led him to North Carolina, where he lived for thirteen years before returning to his roots in 2007. Mark's entrepreneurial spirit shone through when he founded and operated Southern Tier Concrete in Binghamton. His professional life, however, was cut short due to health challenges, as he bravely faced several strokes and diabetes, which led to his residency at Willow Point Nursing Home from 2021 onward. Judy's unwavering support and presence, especially during her visits to the nursing home, provided Mark with a wellspring of encouragement throughout his life's journey.

An avid race enthusiast, Mark's passion for the sport was evident to all who knew him. He relished watching his favorite racer, his Uncle Steve Hill and Steve Kinser, dominate the tracks. Reflecting on his younger years, Mark often shared fond memories of hunting with his grandpa George, a pastime that brought him much happiness and connection to his family roots.

Mark was a man who could light up a room with his wit and charm. His humor was a gift that he shared freely, bringing laughter and smiles to those around him. His love was his hallmark, felt and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.

Mark’s life was a testament to resilience, joy, and the power of human connection. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit, laughter, and love will continue to echo in the hearts of those he touched, as they carry forward the memories of a life well-lived. Mark's story may have reached its final chapter, but the essence of who he was will forever be a part of the narrative of those who loved him.
