When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared, and that will comfort thee….Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother Marletta Smith Wood Edsell, 88, of North Orwell passed away with her family at her side Wednesday morning, December 19, 2012 at the Bradford County Manor where she has resided for the last several years. Marletta was born on December 9, 1924 in Granville Center, Pa a daughter of the late Howard and Eleanor Smith. She was a graduate of the Troy High School class of 1941 and a graduate of the Elmira Business Institute in 1942. On June 15, 1949 she married George Wood and together they lived in Towanda until his passing on April 18, 1973. On July 14, 1979 she married A. Bryce Edsell and together they celebrated eighteen years of marriage until his passing on March 8, 1997. Marletta was a member of the North Orwell Union Church where she participated in the church choir and Women's Auxillary. While living in Towanda, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, its woman's association, choir and formerly served as deacon. She was also a member of the Nichols Senior Citizens and the Northeast Neighbors. She was a retired employee of the Bradford County Court House, Towanda Area School District and E.I. DuPont. Marletta treasured the time spent with her family, tending to her yard and flower gardens. Her gentle and caring ways of making others smile will always be remembered. Marletta is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Gregory and Marie E. Wood of Rome, Pa; step children: Preston (Naomi) Edsell of Troy, Pa; Gary (Eileen) Edsell of Elysburg, PA; Joyce (Charles) Fassett, of Laceyville, Pa; Carol (Brian) Canfield of Springfield, Pa; Beverly (Earl) Packard of Hornell, NY; Debra (Michael) Bolton of Rome, Pa; a brother and sister-in-law: Howard and Olynda J. Smith of West Burlington, Pa; sister-in-law: Joan Edsell of Wyalusing, Pa; brother-in-law: Kent (Cathy) Edsell of Rome; her grandchildren Chandra (Matthew) Andrews and Ian Wood; great grandchildren: Ella, Nolan, and Grace; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Friday, December 21st from 5 to 7 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of Marletta's life will be held on Saturday, December 22nd at 11 am at the North Orwell Union Church with her Pastor, Rev. Jackie Lynn Condon, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda.
