Marsha J. Wheelock

Marsha J. Wheelock, known affectionately as Marsha to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023, at the age of 61, in her hometown of Elmira, NY, where she was also born on February 27, 1962. Her life was a testament to the loving, kind, and gentle spirit she embodied and shared generously with those around her.

Marsha was the cherished daughter of the late Meredith and Shirley M. Wheelock, and she was preceded in death by her brothers, Dayle, Terry and foster brother Donald Williams. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive by her devoted sister and caregiver, Shelby Wheelock; her loving sister, Sherry Vincent; and her dear brother and sister-in-law, DuWayne and Peggy Wheelock. Marsha's legacy extends to her several nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as the many friends she made at the ARC, where she worked diligently for 12 years. Her special aunt, Connie Baker, will forever hold Marsha in her heart.

For over two decades, Marsha's summers were highlighted by her time spent at Camp Arrowhead, where she attended Bible Camp for two weeks each year, nurturing her spiritual growth and was surrounded by her many friends.

Her interests were simple yet profound, as she found joy in the everyday moments of life. Marsha was an avid game show enthusiast, and the melodies of gospel music often filled her home. She especially loved the hymns "Amazing Grace" and "Precious Memories," which spoke to the depth of her faith and the warmth of her character. Crossword puzzles were a favorite pastime, challenging her mind and providing a source of quiet pleasure.

Marsha's presence was a gentle force, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate to know her. Her family takes comfort in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire them, just as the memories of her love and kindness will remain a beacon of light in their lives.

Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 11 – 12 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service will follow at 12 pm with her Cousin Kurt Allen, officiating. Marsha will be laid to rest next to her parents in the Nichols Cemetery.
