Martin Robert Elliott, Sr., of Rome, Pa

Martin Robert Elliott, Sr., affectionately known as "Papa" by his grandchildren and "Marty" by his family and friends, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on October 26, 2025, at the age of 65, at the Robert Packer Hospital following a courageous battle with Lung Cancer. Born on February 3, 1960, to Aubrey and Alberta (Hoover) Elliott, Marty was a lifelong resident of Rome and a pillar to his family he held so dear.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Marty leaves behind his loving wife of 34 years, Marie, with whom he built a life full of love and laughter. His legacy continues through his children, Martin Elliott, Jr., Tina Dunbar, Bonnie (Chris) Daly, and Jaime Douglas. His special grandchildren, Tenisha (Ashley) Pedro, Joshua (Ocianna) Shultz, Michaela (Daphne) Allen, Dominic (Brittany) Shaffer, Wendy Howell, Nikita Wells, and ten great grandchildren will carry on the cherished memories of their "Papa's" tenderness and warmth. Marty is also survived by his sister, Joan Babcock, and the siblings of his dear wife, Marie: Sharon Sweeney, Allen Ammerman, Shirley (Larry) Spaulding, and Kathy (Dave) Aumick, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. His life was previously touched by the loss of his parents, his sister Audrey, his brother-in-law Blair Babcock, his grandson Ely Allen, and his sister-in-law May Dunbar.

His heart was deeply rooted in dairy farming, where he owned and operated his farm with passion and pride. In addition to his agricultural endeavors, he worked in construction and was a respected member of Local Union 703. Marty's love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of gardening and hunting on his property in the hills of Northeast Pennsylvania. His greatest joy, however, was found in the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, where he instilled in them the values of hard work and integrity.

Those who knew Marty would describe him as loving, friendly, and generous. His character was marked by his honesty and the sincere connections he forged with those around him. As Henry David Thoreau once said, "Goodness is the only investment that never fails." Marty's life was a testament to this belief, as the goodness he shared with the world continues to resonate in the lives of those he touched.

Marty's absence will be profoundly felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered not only for the love he gave but also for the strength and resilience with which he faced life's challenges, including his final battle with lung cancer. His spirit, characterized by his unwavering positivity and the joy he found in the simplest pleasures, will forever be an inspiration to his family and friends.
