Martin L. Rought

Martin L. Rought, a cherished father, brother, and grandfather, passed away suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Nichols, on Sunday morning, April 14, 2024. Born on November 10, 1957, in Waverly, NY, Martin lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and an enduring love for his family and the many lives he touched.
Martin was a graduate of Tioga Central School, Class of 1975. His commitment to service was evident early on as he enlisted in the US Navy, proudly serving his country for four years. Following his military service, Martin embarked on a successful career as an Engineer, where he was instrumental in running power plants across New York State, from Elmira to near Middletown, to Binghamton. When not working, Martin was a man with a passion for the outdoors. He particularly enjoyed fishing with his children and brothers, a pastime that brought him considerable joy and peace. His talent for creating fly tying lures was a testament to his artistic ability and patience. Martin's love for animals was boundless, and he shared a special bond with his beloved pit bull puppy, Buddy, who was a constant source of companionship and joy.
Martin's life was a reflection of love in its purest form. He is survived by his loving daughter Mindy Stocker and son Michael Rought, as well as his treasured grandchildren, Ryan, Xander, and Wyatt. His memory will also be cherished by his brothers, William Rought and Nels Rought, nephews William and Clifford, along with their families, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, William W. and Geraldine Mae Rought, and his sister, Cindy Hitchock. Martin's legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on through the many lives he influenced.
