MaryLou Hiley of Athens, Pa
MaryLou Hiley passed away surrounded by family at her home in Athens, PA on August 22, 2025 at the age of 69. Born in Sayre, PA on January 24, 1956, MaryLou was a woman whose presence was a comfort and whose laughter was a gift to all who knew her.
MaryLou was the cherished wife of Joseph L. Hiley, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage of nearly 49 years since their wedding on October 30, 1976. Together, they built a life filled with joy and companionship. She was a loving mother to her children, Ben (Sarah) Hiley, Lucas (Lisa) Hiley, and Sara Beth Hiley (Travis Hoffmann), and the proud grandmother to Madalyn, Gretchan, Braydon, Joey, Micah, Eve, Max, and Adam, who were the light of her life. Her siblings, Connie Ball and Michael Allen, along with Joe’s siblings, Edwin Hiley (Rose Garrity), and Lisa (Kevin) Englebert, held a special place in her heart. MaryLou was predeceased by her parents, William and Marjorie Allen; her brother, Larry Ammerman; her niece, Lisa Allen Hawken, and her brother-in-law Jack Ball. Her family was her world, and the bonds she shared with her nieces, nephews, cousins, including a special cousin Alan Fassett, were unbreakable.
A proud Athens Bulldog, MaryLou graduated from Athens High School in 1973. Her life's work was her family, as she found her greatest achievement in being an attentive and loving mom, always there for her children and husband. MaryLou also brought warmth to her roles at a dental office and later as a cherished employee at the Danko Chiropractic office for 25 years.
MaryLou's love for country life was evident in her appreciation for nature. She found joy in watching the birds and wildlife near her home and treasured every moment with her husband, Joe. MaryLou was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren's accomplishments, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on at sporting events. Her wit and sense of humor were her trademark. She could win anyone over with a one-liner or her mischievous smile.
To describe MaryLou is to speak of her wit, her love of family, and generosity shown to friends. Her friends and family will remember her sense of humor, her devotion to Joe, Ben, Lucas, and Sara Beth, and how she enjoyed feeding friends and family. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her memory will continue to inspire and guide those she loved.
