R. Matthew “Matt” Hartranft
of Wysox, Pa
R. Matthew "Matt" Hartranft, a cherished life partner, devoted father, beloved son, and loyal friend, passed away on May 16, 2024, in Sayre, Pennsylvania following a brief illness. Born on August 10, 1993, in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, Matt's vibrant spirit and love for life touched many during his time on earth.
Matt's journey began as a bright light in the lives of his parents, Jessica Smith and Robert B. Hartranft. He grew up alongside his sister Carey Hartranft, whom he shared an unbreakable bond. His grandmother Sharon Ketchledge's wisdom and warmth were a guiding force throughout his life. Matt was a loving part of Lacy's extended family, including her father Gary Powers, and her sisters Stacy Powers and Marcy Carr. His role as a fun and caring uncle to his special nephews Reid, Wesley, Gavin, and Reece, along with his cousins Marcus, Leah, Nora and Ren was one he cherished deeply.
In the halls of Northeast Bradford High School, a young Matt met Lacy Powers in the ninth grade. Their connection was undeniable, and together they navigated the path of life, eventually welcoming two beautiful children into the world. Vivian, age 4, and Dean, age 3, were Matt's greatest treasures. His love for them was boundless, and he embraced every moment of fatherhood with joy and enthusiasm.
Matt's professional life was marked by his dedication and work ethic. He was a valued member of the shipping department at DuPont, where his colleagues respected him for his commitment and friendly nature.
Outside of work, Matt's passions were as vast as the great outdoors he loved to explore. He found solace in the beauty of nature, often hiking and walking in the woods with his family. State parks were a favorite destination, where he watched Vivian and Dean play in the water, their laughter a melody he could listen to forever. Music was another source of joy for Matt, a soundtrack to the many adventures he shared with Lacy. His infectious laugh was a testament to the love and happiness they found in each other's company.
Those who knew Matt would describe him as loving and adventurous—an individual whose heart was as vast as the sky above. He had an innate ability to make every moment count and to see the beauty in the simple things.
As Matt is welcomed into heaven by his best friend since the 7th grade, Cody Wagner, his grandparents: Larry Smith, Clayton and VeLane Hartranft; Aunt Stacy Smith, and Lacy's mother Marcia Powers, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to shine brightly.
In the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Matt's love, laughter, and zest for life have become an indelible part of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy is one of love, family, and the courage to embrace every adventure that life offers.
We will forever hold Matt in our hearts, remembering the joy he brought to our lives and the loving memories he has left behind. His life was a beautiful journey that, although cut short, was lived with fullness and grace.
