Max Lent Dewing, 81, of Warren Center, pa passed away at home on Monday morning, August 17, 2009. Max was born on September 22, 1927 in Warrenham, Pennsylvania a son of Albert and Gladys (Manchester) Dewing. Max attended the Warren Center School. In addition to running the family farm, Max was also employed at BMC for a few years, and then had worked with Allied Services for several years. During his many years of farming, Max was active in the Soil and Water Conservation organization holding several offices during his time with them. Max was a founding director in the Bradford Sullivan Forest Landowners Association and was also active in several other farming related organizations. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and the National Wild Turkey Federation and was a member of several hunting organizations. Max was active in his community as a volunteer firefighter and worked with the United Methodist Church Sunday School and Grange. Max is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Grace (Abell) Dewing at home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Andrew and Sally (Snyder) Dewing; David and Becky (Allis) Dewing; daughters: Kathy MacKechnie and Joan Beckwith; son-in-law Michael (Kathy) Barker; his siblings: Carol Darling, Betty (Norman) Darling; Robert (Martha) Dewing, Russell (Ruth) Dewing; sister-in-law: Mary Dewing; 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Max was predeceased by his parents, brother Paul Dewing and daughter Jean Barker. Funeral services and a celebration of Max's life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 2 pm at the Warren Center United Methodist Church, with Pastor Brad Marple, officiating. Interment will follow in the Coburn-Dewing Cemetery. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
