Melvin G. Day

Melvin G. Day, 82, of Lounsberry went home to be with his Lord peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Charlene (Sackett) Day; a son Aaron Day; step-children Kevin Carpenter, Holly Carpenter and Robin Hill and their families; a sister Loretta Rude; nieces and nephews: Durwin, Leslie, Harold Rude and Carolyn Clarke. Melvin was born on May 21, 1934 at home in the Town of Union a son of Clarence and Emma (Spencer) Day. He was a graduate of Owego Free Academy and proudly served his country with the US Army. His greatest pleasure was being at home surrounded by his farm. Melvin was a member of the Zion Chapel Church and was prominent Gideon. Devoted to serving others, Mel shared his love for the Lord with a jail ministry for over 30 years. He also will be remembered for tracking the weather conditions for the National Weather Service. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, November 7th from 1 - 2:30 pm at the Zion Chapel Church, 241 Glory Hill Rd., Waverly. A funeral service and celebration of his life will follow.
