Mildred I. Leonard

A mother holds her children's hands for a little while and their hearts forever.....Mildred I. Leonard, 87, of Cadis, Pa passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital. Mildred was born on November 12, 1928 in West Warren, PA a daughter of the late Harry and Phoebe (Olmstead) Strope. She attended school in West Warren until the third grade, attended school in Warren Center until the tenth grade and graduated in 1947 from LeRaysville. For many years, Mildred worked making children's clothing at Cary's. In addition she also delivered newspapers for the Owego Pennysaver, and worked as a housekeeper at the Owego Treadway and Comfort Inn. Mildred was an avid reader and enjoyed tending to her house plants. She will be greatly missed by her children: Katherine (Barry) Edwards of N. Rome, Pa; Patricia Leonard of Cadis; William "Dusty" (Sedinam) Leonard of Endicott; Michael (Carol) Leonard of Rome, Pa a sister-in-law: Mercy Strope of Windham; five grandchildren; nieces: Brenda Taylor and Lorna Morgan; nephews Matthew Strope and Larry Lawrence. Mildred was predeceased by her daughter Rebecca Snedekar; sister Edith (Porter) Lawrence; brothers: Kenneth Strope and Gerald "Pete" Strope; and a grandson: Brandon Edwards. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Tuesday, November 1st from 4 - 6 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of her life will follow at 6 pm at the funeral chapel with Pastor Theodore Griffin, of the North Rome Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment and prayers of committal will be held on Wednesday, November 2 at 3 pm at the Nichols Cemetery.
