Mildred Isabel French Arnold Briggs 85 Mildred Briggs, aged 85, of Leasure Hill Rd, Nichols, NY, passed away at home with her loving husband at her side on June 17, 2013 due to the complications of Alzheimer's disease. Mildred "Millie" was born at the French family farm on French Road in Windham Township, Bradford County, PA on September 24, 1927, the 6th of 9 children born to Miles Bowman and Mildred Dell (Merrill) French. Millie attended grade school in Windham Center after which she attended the Rome High school until circumstances required her to quit school and find work to help support her family. It was while working for Cora Arnold Green that Millie met her first husband, Claude Newell Arnold. They were married on August 18, 1945 and spent over 30 wonderful years together, until his death on January 5, 1976. Millie and Claude had three children, Sharon M. (Merritt) Vargason, of Arnold Rd, Athens, PA, Rodney C. Arnold, Bumpville Rd, Ulster, PA and Jack C. (Joyce) Arnold of Arnold Rd, Athens, PA. Several years after Claude's death, Millie met fell in love with Charles Edward "Charlie" Briggs at a Square Dance. They were married on August 14, 1982 and spent over 30 wonderful years together. Above all else, Millie enjoyed her family and helping her husbands on their respective dairy farms. Millie also enjoyed many other activities including being outdoors working in her garden, long walks, Square Dancing, sewing, quilting with her sisters as well as many other crafts. Millie was an excellent cook and always looked forward to enjoying the company of her many siblings, children, grandchildren and Great Grandchildren at the dinner table. Millie was in superb physical condition until Alzheimer's gradually robbed her of her health and memory. As she declined she still liked nothing better than visiting her children and long rides with her husband. Even with the help of Hospice over the past two weeks and the help of Millie's family, it was primarily due to Charlie's abundant efforts that Millie was able to spend her final months as she wanted - at home with her husband. In addition to her parents and first husband, Millie was predeceased by a Daughter-in-Law, Doris "Jean" Arnold, a great grandson Tegan A. Sessaman, her siblings and their spouses Clarence (Florence) French, Bernice (Henry) Brown, Miles French, Jr., Dorothea "Dot" (Kenneth) Folk, Oscar French, Perry "Pete" Brown and Lloyd "Zeke" French.
