A heart of gold stopped beating, two willing hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best…..Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Lawrence E. Gallow of Bridge St., Smithboro passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Elderwood Health Care Facility in Waverly. Larry as he was lovingly known by his family and friends was born on April 18, 1919 in Alpine, NY a son of Fred H. and Celia Gallow. He was a graduate of Owego Free Academy class of 1938. In 1940, Larry entered into the US Army and proudly served his country during WWII. On September 28, 1942 he married Ella Louise House and together they celebrated nearly sixty nine years of marriage until her passing on April 30, 2011. Larry was a retired Production Control Coordinator for Westinghouse. He was a member of the Smithboro United Methodist Church, Oak Leaf Grange (50+ year member) and a founding member of the Tioga Center Fire Department. Larry enjoyed bowling although his greatest pleasure was being with his family. Larry is survived by his daughter: Deborah Hottle; his grandsons: Lynn R. and his wife Shawn Hottle; Lyle H. Hottle; great grandsons: Jacob, Joshua and Theron. His brothers Fred L. Gallow; Nathan (Wilma) Gallow; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: John House, Carolyn (Bob) McCarthy, Susan Carpenter, Betty (Pete) Plestis, Gladys Kucher; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to his wife and parents, Larry was predeceased by a sister at birth, Gladys Gallow, and a sister Vivian "Jane" Cardiff. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Wednesday, May 2 at the Smithboro United Methodist Church from 10 until noon. Funeral services and a celebration of Larry's life will follow at noon with Pastor Donna Martin, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Smithboro Cemetery.
