A mother holds her child's hand for a little while….and their heart forever ~ Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother Myrtle Hanford, 94, of Nichols passed away on Friday morning, October 18, 2013. Myrtle was born on April 29, 1919 in Waverly, NY one of twelve children to William and Isabelle Reynolds. She married George Hanford, a prominent dairy farmer in Nichols and she assisted in the operations of the farm. In addition, she worked for a time at the Eclispe in Elmira. Myrtle was a active member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Rebekah Lodge, Asbury Community Club and Senior Citizens. During her retirement, she and George spent winters in Florida, traveled to Europe, Alaska, and enjoyed several cruises. She greatly treasured her family and always looked forward to hosting dinners and get togethers. Myrtle was a very generous and caring person. She loved playing cards, BINGO, and shuffle board all at which she was tough to beat. She will be sincerely missed and always remembered. Myrtle will be greatly missed by her daughter Anna Wheeler; her son and daughter-in-law: Donald and Marda Hanford; six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband George and several brothers and sisters. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of Myrtle's life will be held on Wednesday, October 23 at 11am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Nichols Cemetery.
