Softly in the morning you heard a gentle call, you took the hand God offered you and quietly left us all….Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend ~ Patricia D. Horton, 79, of Smithboro passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Lourdes Hospital following a courageous battle with Cancer. Pat was born on May 29, 1935, in Bergen, New Jersey a daughter of the late Earle and Bertha (Mayer) Heyman. On November 15, 1953 in Smithboro, she married Raymond E. Horton and together they made Smithboro their home. Pat was a long time Teacher's Aid for the 5th Grade Teachers at Tioga Middle School. She was a devoted and dedicated member of the Smithboro United Methodist Church where she actively participated with the United Methodist Women. In addition, she also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star ~ Waverly Chapter 9. A loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, Pat treasured the time spent with her family. She enjoyed the many family camping trips, was a wonderful cook and baker, a talented quilter and tole painter. She will be greatly missed by her family. Until we meet again, Mom, may you find comfort in the arms of the angels. Pat will be greatly missed by her loving husband of nearly 62 years, Raymond E. Horton; her son and daughter-in-law: Stephen D. and Rebecca Horton of Chemung; her daughters and son-in-law: Cheryl A. Horton of Spencer; Susan and Robert Walkley of Tioga Center; brother and sister-in-law: Earle "Sonny" and Jan Heyman of Owego; sisters and brothers-in-law: Barbara and Bernard Vallilee of Smithboro; Kathi and Richard Andress of Surfside Beach, SC; her special grandchildren: Anthony and Stefanie Horton; Nathon and Jessica Horton; Jason Horton; Gregory and Justina Walkley; Janelle Walkley; Scott Walkley; and Kari Walkley; two great grandsons: Travis and Henry Horton. Raymond's siblings, Carol Luther and Richard Horton; many nieces, nephews, and friends among them special friends: Paul and Shirley Madigan, Judy Catlin, John and Joanne Goble and Fred Michel. Pat was predeceased by her parents Earle and Bertha (Mayer) Heyman; infant twin sisters Bertha and Arlene; brother Johnny; sister Johanna Franciscovich; and best friends Julie and George Kinney. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 10 - 1pm at the Smithboro United Methodist Church, Church St., Smithboro. A memorial service and celebration of her life will follow at 1 pm with her Pastor Donna Martin, officiating.
