Perry  Horton

of Owego, New York

Perry Horton, a man of remarkable skill and unwavering devotion to his family, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, at the age of 61. Born on February 11, 1963 to the late William Horton and Minnie Rosenberger, Perry lived a life characterized by hard work, a love for the outdoors, and a heart full of love for his family and friends.

Perry was a lifelong resident of the community where he was born and raised. His hands were rarely still, as he was always involved in various projects. Whether it was farming, logging, or working as a mechanic, Perry was known for his ability to fix and build just about anything. His love for machinery was evident to all who knew him, with a particular passion for riding tractors that could be traced back to his earliest days.

Aside from his professional endeavors, Perry was an avid collector of farming items, a hobby that showcased his deep appreciation for the history and evolution of agricultural practices. He could often be found hunting in the surrounding areas, a pastime that not only reflected his love for nature but also his skillful and patient character.

But above all, Perry was a family man. He is survived by his sons, Perry Horton Jr., partnered with Meleah Smith, and John Parker, married to Stacy; his brother, Robert Horton; and sister, Peggy Edwards. Perry's legacy extends to his cherished grandchildren: Alice, Owen, and Ariel Horton; Calvin and Jack Smith; along with Addison, Shyanne, Brooklyn, and Caleb Marshall, who will all remember him as a loving and caring grandfather with a touch of stubbornness—a man set in his ways, believing firmly in the principle of 'his way or the highway.'

Perry was predeceased by his close friends Gary and Randy Rosenberger

Those who knew Perry would invariably describe him as loving. His presence was a source of strength and warmth, and his ability to show care through actions rather than words was a trait that endeared him to many. He was a man who made time for his family, regardless of how busy life could get, ensuring that the bonds he formed were strong and lasting.

We will gather on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 1- 4 at Hickories Park (Pavilion 4) for a celebration of Perry's life.  His  passing leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to the enduring power of love, hard work, and the simple joys of sharing one’s passions with others. Perry will be deeply missed, but the impact he made on his family, friends, and community will never be forgotten.
