Perry "Pete" Joseph Brown Sr.

When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared, and that will comfort thee….Our loving father, grandfather and great grandfather Perry Joseph Brown, Sr., 93, of Warren Center and formerly of Elmira, NY passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the CMC Geisinger Hospital, Scranton, Pa. Perry was born on November 5, 1919 in Athens, Pa a one of twelve children of Eva (Newman) and Oliver Brown, Sr. He was a veteran of the US Army and proudly served his country from 1941 - 1945. He was a former member and instrumental in building the VFW Post 6824 Haighs Pond and member of the Skiff-Bower Post 1536, Sayre, Pa. Pete, as he was affectionately known by his family and his friends loved to hunt and fish, he also enjoyed reading and at one time inspired to become a writer. In his younger years, Pete was a talented carpenter as well as a lumberjack. He was also a heavy equipment operator and most content being on a seat of a bulldozer. A talented musician, Pete could play the violin, mouth harp, steel guitar and guitar. Perry is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Merna Elaine and Gary Osborne, Sr., of Ark; Muriel and Robert Miller of Franklindale, Pa; Florence and William Vrabel of Warren Center, Pa; Diana and Greg Snell of Florida; Priscilla and Gary Goeckel of Florida; Roxanne and Ronald Bishop of Wyalusing, Pa; Angela and Larry Bellinger of Warren Center, Pa; Vanessa and Mark Welch of Warren Center, Pa; his son Perry Joseph Brown, Jr. of Towanda, Pa; the mother of his children, Ruthanna Brown of Dushore, Pa twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. He was predeceased by his brothers: Henry, Nelson, Gerald and Oliver; his sisters: Merna, Muriel, Florence, Doris, Lavina, Grace and Shirley. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Thursday, January 17th from 10 to 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service celebration of Perry's life will follow at 11 am Pastor Larry D. Jennings, officiating. A luncheon and period of fellowship will follow.
