Charles "Pops" Johnson, Jr.

of Sayre, PA

Charles Johnson, Jr., affectionately known to many as "Pops," passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024, in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Born on September 5, 1959, in Elmira, New York, Chuck was a man whose life was characterized by his love for his family, his passion for the great outdoors, and his remarkable handiness.

Chuck attended Waverly High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He dedicated many years of service as a bus driver for C-Tran, where he was known for his punctuality, friendly demeanor, and the care he showed to every passenger he greeted.

Pops was a man who relished life's simple pleasures. An avid outdoorsman, he spent countless hours hunting and fishing in the lush landscapes of New York State and Pennsylvania. It wasn't uncommon to find Pop’s by a stream, casting his pole with the patience and tranquility of a seasoned angler. He also enjoyed the thrill of riding motorcycles, often recalling fond memories of touring the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon with his late wife, Robin.

Family was the cornerstone of Pops life. He was a loving father to his children, Chad & Melissa Belles, JD & Tara Johnson, Courtney Johnson, Brandy & Kiwaun Harris, and Brandon Johnson. As "Poppy" to his grandchildren, he shared his love for nature, teaching them the joys of hunting and fishing. —Cheyenne & Brighton, Shannon, Michael, Breana, Aaron, Jacob, Trinity, Riley, Madison, Ciera, Savannah, Alea, Jayden, Javon, Braelynn, Elijah, and Cooper—and great-grandchildren—Lakelynn, Emberleigh, and a great-granddaughter on the way. Chucks' siblings, Jimmy, Jon & Kesha, Kevin & Lisa, Amy & Bill, and Shawn & Karl, will cherish the memories of their brother.

His life was enriched by the company of special friends, including Bill and Billie Jo Nusbaum, Mackie, Carol, Bill McCarty, and Travis Snyder. Pops sense of kinship extended to his many nieces and nephews, among them Jonathan, Austin, and Wally, who will miss his guidance and infectious laughter. Pops was also a passionate fan of the Buffalo Bills and NASCAR. It was often said that he could fix and build anything—a testament to his ingenuity and skill.

Chuck was predeceased by his beloved wife of 17 years, Robin Johnson; his mother, Betty; mother-in-law, Doris Belles; brother, Brian Belles; and son, Shaun.

His family expresses deep gratitude to the nurses on the 5 Main Oncology unit at the Robert Packer Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during his final days. As we remember Pops, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Pops legacy of love, his handy nature, and his unwavering dedication to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at a later date, where stories will be shared, laughter will echo, and his spirit will be honored by all those whose lives he touched. Pops was a beacon of love and a true craftsman of life, and his memory will be treasured forever. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting his guestbook at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com
