This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it……Our hearts are heavy with the passing of such a wonderful and caring man, Rev. George M. Jatko, 92, of Apalachin, went home to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 5, 2012 following a period of declining health. George is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen; son Charles E. Jatko; grandson: Chad E. and his wife Carlene Jatko; great grandchildren: Corbin and Caleb; a brother Albert "Bill" Jatko; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Elmer and Harriett Storozow; Kenneth and Marion Storozow; several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends also survive. George was predeceased by his brothers Arnie and Elmer Jatko. George was born on April 14, 1920 in Apalchin, a son of the late Charles and Mary Jatko. He was a graduate of Orville High School. Following graduation he enlisted into the US Navy and proudly served his country during WWII. On May 8, 1943, in Oakland, CA George married Helen and together they shared many wonderful years together. George was a long time employee of IBM Endioctt, although most will remember him for his love and devotion to the Lord as pastor of the South Warren Church and the Neath Welsh Congregational Church. George was pilot, enjoyed spending time outdoors, down hill skiing, camping at Alpine Lake in Stevensville, Pa. His greatest pleasure was sharing his love for the Lord and visiting with people. Pastor George will be greatly missed by so many. Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Sunday, July 8th from 3 to 5 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 9th at 2pm at the funeral chapel. The family will also receive friends from 1pm until the time of the service on Monday. Interment and prayers of committal will be held at the convenience of the family in the Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
