Rev. James A. Walter, Sr ., a man of unwavering faith, completed his earthly journey on August 29, 2024, at the age of 92. He passed away peacefully at home in Little Meadows, PA. Born March 1, 1932, in Rockwood, PA he devoted his life to guiding many with his spirited and thoughtful nature.
Rev. Walter is survived by his daughter, Denise Pitcher of Little Meadows, PA, and his son James A. (Shelly) Walter, Jr ., of Dallas, GA. He was a proud grandfather to Hannah Lukovich, Carrie (John Michael) Cunningham, Mattie (Sam) Harris, and Samuel (Sarah) Pitcher, and two great grandchildren, Nicholas Pitcher and Charlotte Cunningham.
Rev. Walter also leaves behind his sister-in-law Thelma Saylor and special friend and care giver, Jonas Mast. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Doris H. Walter, his son-in-law Rev. David Pitcher, his brother Harry, and half siblings Ruby Atchison and Earl Atchison.
Rev. Walter is a graduate of Rockwood Highschool and then furthering his calling at Practical Bible Training School in Johnson City, NY. His dedication to serving others and the Lord was evident through his extensive ministry. He pastored the South Apalachin Baptist Church for 26 years. Previously he served the Calvary Baptist Church in Trumansburg, NY, as well as the Waits Church and Windham Summit Church. His pastoral care and spiritual guidance touched many lives over the years.
His interests were as diverse as they were passionate. An avid golfer he also enjoyed participating in church baseball and basketball teams. Rev. Walter was a gifted writer having published two books and numerous pamphlets. Alongside his wife, Doris, he traveled extensively across the United States including Alaska, Canada, and to Israel. He loved the Lord and dedicated his life to sharing his ministry with others.
