Richard "Rick" Prokop
of Owego, NY
Richard “Rick” Prokop, 63, of Owego, NY, passed away on January 15, 2025, after a long battle with illness. Born on July 17, 1961, in Binghamton, NY, and a graduate of Susquehanna Valley High School, Rick was a devoted father, brother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Rick had a zest for life and a variety of interests that brought him joy. A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he was also passionate about Disney, golf, fishing, and hunting. However, nothing brought Rick greater joy than his three beloved sons, Ryan, Jacob and Nicholas who were the light of his life.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Francis “Frank” Sr. and Beverly Prokop. He is survived by his three sons, Ryan (Kellie) Reynolds, Jacob (Brooke) Prokop, and Nicholas Prokop, the mother of his children Michelle Reynolds-Prokop, his brothers Frank Jr. (Diana) Prokop and Kevin (Debbie) Prokop, his sister Patricia “Patty” Prokop, and his two grandchildren, Lilah and Parker Reynolds. He is also survived by his niece, Nicole (Travis) Prokop, and nephew, Richard “Ritchie” (Lauren) Prokop, as well as many dear friends and extended family members who will miss him deeply.
A retired Nuclear Medicine Technician, Rick worked for many years at UHS and Cayuga Medical Center, where he touched countless lives through his dedication and compassionate care. He was known for his infectious sense of humor and quick wit, always finding ways to bring smiles to others, even during his illness. Rick will be remembered by his friends he played softball with and they many friends he made throughout his time as the Owner of Casey’s Bar especially his close friends Tim Grady, Jeff Thiel and Tim Reardon.
Rick’s warmth, humor, and love for his family and friends will be remembered by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held at Sutfin Funeral Home 273 Main St, Nichols, NY, on January 25, 2025. The family will receive visitors from 11am - 1pm with a service to follow at 1pm. Following the services, family and friends are invited to gather at the Original Bar & Lounge, 23 Lake St., Owego, NY, from 2-5pm to share stories and celebrate Rick’s life.
