Rita E. Youngs

Rita Ellen (Chambers) Youngs 88, of East River Road Nichols, NY formerly of Sayre, PA., passed away peacefully at her daughters home with her family at her side on August 15, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. Rita was born May 10, 1926 at home in Alpine, NY. After graduating from Van Etten High School in 1944, Rita married Edward Paul Chambers of Ridgebury, PA in 1948. Together they raised four children. Always a caring mother to her family, she served as a cub Scout den leader, assisted with girl scouts, and a helper throughout her lifetime to many organizations. Edward passed away in 1978. Rita worked briefly outside the home at Sayre lingerie, IBM Owego and F.M.Howell Co. in Elmira. Rita remarried on August 27, 1983 to Milfurd (Jimmy) W. Youngs of Elmira N.Y They enjoyed a long retirement together gardening, camping in the area with their friends, enjoying the fire. In the early years they spent most of their winters in Florida . Together they were loving Grandparents who often watched (and may have spoiled) their grandchildren. Her family loved spending time with her she was "Mother" in the true sense of the word. Rita's hobbies were cooking, baking, and doing crafts. She always looked forward to what tomorrow would bring. She will be missed for her kind gentle and caring manner. Rita was an active Member of the Nichols United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi. Rita is survived by her husband of 31 years, Jimmy, two daughters Cheryl (Cliff) Signor of Whitney Point, NY. Sheila (Tom) Jennings of Vestal, NY. two sons Michael (Denise) Chambers of Nichols, NY and Charles (Kathleen) Chambers of Nichols, NY. one sister Louise (Gene) Benson of Gillette, PA. one brother Howard (Mary) Gallow of Ballwin, MO. eight grandchildren Shannon(Doug) Prough, Matthew Chambers, Nicholas (Trish) Chambers, Maureen Jennings, Kyla (Phil) Baker, Sarah Smith, Julie Chambers, Cassie Chambers. Rita has twelve great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Monday, August 25th from 11-1 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of her life will follow at 1 pm.
