Robert A. James

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear…..Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend Robert A. James, 59, of Nichols passed away on Sept. 9, 2013. Bob was born on May 29, 1954 in Endicott, NY. A life-long resident of Nichols, Bob was a graduate of Tioga Central High School class of 1972. He continued his schooling and received his teaching degree from Plattsburg and Post Graduate studies from Elmira and Cortland College. For 16 years Bob taught at Tioga Central Schools and then served 18 years as a beloved Principal at the Elementary, Middle and High Schools. Many will also remember Bob for his expert coaching skills in football, wrestling, baseball and the girl's basketball teams. Bob was a true Yankee's, NY Giants and West VA University fan. He greatest pleasure was being surrounded by his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 34 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" James; his sons Nicholas A. James of Jacksonville, Fla; Douglas A. James of Fort Dix, NJ; daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Eddie Myers of Lockwood; former daughter-in-law Jess Martin of Morgantown, W. Va; his mother Patricia DeWitt; sister Robin James of Nichols; his special grandchildren: Mack, Kaelyn, Mikella, and Jax; an aunt Arlene Snyder; uncle John Grandeo; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends also survive. Bob was predeceased by his father Robert H. James and step-father Donald DeWitt. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Wednesday, September 11th from 3 to 7 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of Bob's life will be held on Thursday, September 12th at 1 pm at the Tioga Central Middle School Auditorium. A private family interment will follow in the Nichols Cemetery.
