Robert C. Eldred

Robert C Eldred, 95, of Greene New York passed away July 21, 2022 with his daughter by his side. Bob was born in Sayre, PA on February 7, 1927 the son of Raymond and Daisy (Merrill). Predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years Lois Ann and a grandson Jamie Eldred. Robert is survived by his son David (Susan) Eldred and his daughter Judy (Rick) Laven. Grandchildren Jeremy (Christine), Christian (Allison), Todd, Robbie (Lizbeth) Woolston and his precious great grandchildren Fin, Neylon and Lillie. Robert was a WWII Navy Veteran. Enlisting in 1944 at the age of 16, he proudly served his country for 2 years. Upon returning home in 1946, he returned to high school to earn his diploma. At his graduation he was handed an envelope and was told to put $10 in it. Everything else had already been handled. The envelope contained admission papers to Mansfield University. An act of kindness in return for his many acts of kindness. He graduated from Mansfield and began his lifelong career as an elementary teacher in the Greene Central , NY school district. After becoming Principal, he designed many new programs for both students and staff. Bob was always praising the staff within his administration. He exercised respect for both students and staff which created an amazing family environment that will always be remembered. By the time of his retirement in 1985, he was well known and respected by everyone who had the good fortune of meeting him. The idea of failure never entered his mind. He was always a problem solver. The last 4 years brought many serious medical challenges that he endured with his strong spirit, love of life, and the support of his daughter Judy until he became tired and was ready to go home. Bob and Judy wanted to extend their gratitude to Karen Scott, a longtime friend, who remained by their side with constant support and compassion right to the very end. Arrangements have been made by Sutfin Funeral Chapel. Bob will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife and family, in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens PA.
