Robert G. Downing, Jr.

Robert G. Downing, Jr., 67, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2009 at his home. Bob was born on October 20, 1942 in Ithaca a son of the late Marymargaret (Lantzy) and Robert G. Downing, Sr. He was a graduate of Tioga Central High School and following graduation enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country aboard the USS Enterprise. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR and being surrounded by his family. Bob is survived by his son Robert G. Downing, III of Aurora, NY; daughter and son-in-law: Christa and Daniel Walsh of Binghamton, NY; sister and brother-in-law: Diane and Eugene Bostwick of North Carolina; granddaughter Casey (Seth) Wenninger of Ada, Ohio; grandson Josef D. Ziegler; great grandchildren: Zavier and Lexi Wenninger. Nieces and nephews and their families: William and Gail Soltis Sayre, Pa; Christopher Soltis of Conklin, NY; Tonia (Wheeler) and Vincent Hall of Binghamton, NY; Scott and Kim Bostwick of Waverly; Doug Patak of Sayre, Pa. Bob was predeceased by his father Robert G. Downing, Sr., his mother and step father Marymargaret and Max Dillon; sister Nancy Downing Chico; niece Lori Bostwick Patak; nephew Ryan Bostwick. A memorial service and celebration of Bob's life will be held on Monday, December 14th at 6 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Monday from 4 to 6 pm at the funeral chapel.
